Dear Kensington Community,
The Kensington Residents and Ratepayers Association (KRRA) has recently been informed about the dire circumstances facing our security guards at Rhodes Park. While these diligent members of our community work day and night to keep the Park safe for us all to enjoy, they have unfortunately been involved in a labour dispute since June 2023 and have not received wages. This of course affects their well-being (and those of their families) and livelihoods.
Ultimately this issue must be resolved by the employer, but in the short term, we would like to assist as a community.
Rhodes park has been around forever. This neighbourhood treasure contains hidden gems, including a number of ponds and a lake with ducks. There is a tennis court, a play area for children, sports fields where many in our community play soccer and a beautiful corridor of huge, ancient trees where families (and their pets) often take walks. In the summer, we enjoy the newly refurbished swimming pool and Saturday morning yoga.
In addition, we have our library – a quiet place of solace to read and work from.
Our security guards keep all these spaces safe, and are in dire need of our help! We can show our gratitude and care by donating essentials such as food, warm clothes/blankets and money, until the matter they are facing is resolved.
